Authentic Christ-Centered Worship, Study, and Sometimes Just Plain Silliness!

Welcome to St. Andrew's

 /> <div style= Dear everyone,

God's richest blessings to all of you in this new year and especially at the start of the new Spring Semester here at the University of Wyoming!

Thanks for checking out our website. If this is your first time here, welcome! We invite you to take a spin through our website and get to know what this place is all about. We'd love to hear from you, but more than anything we hope to see you and have you join us for the Divine Service this coming Sunday!

We have a lot of great things planned in the new year, but unfortunately I won't be able to enjoy any of them with you until late January, as I will be leaving for Sierra Leone (West Africa) on January 6th to help Dr. Steven Hein teach the Lutheran pastors of Sierra Leone for two weeks. I will be returning very late on the evening of January 23rd.

Please peruse the various news and notes below, including a list of early semester activities and the guest preachers we have lined up for the first three Sundays of the semester while I'm gone.

Once again, happy new year, and God's blessings on the start of your semester!

In Christ,

Pastor Zill

Guest Preachers/Teachers During Epiphanytide

While Pastor Zill is gone we are pleased to have the following pastors preaching and leading Bible Class for us throughout the season of Epiphany:
  • /> <div style=1/10 (Epiphany 1): Rev. Kenneth Mars
Rev. Mars is the pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball, NE and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burns, WY. He also serves as the Secretary of the Wyoming District, until recently was the Youth Facilitator of the District.
    Bible Study Topic: "Oneness Pentecostalism"
Pastor Mars spent 12 years in oneness Pentecostalism before becoming a Lutheran. The United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) is the largest group that holds to the ancient heresy of modalism. The UPCI is a small but VERY vocal, hardcore group. Come learn about their views on the Doctrine of the Trinity, Speaking in Tongues, the Doctrine of Election. Hear why they believe that women aren't supposed to cut their hair, wear make-up or jewelry, and why television, dancing, alcohol, etc. are taboo. Most importantly, get familiar with how we as Lutherans can respond and reach out to those who come from a similar background.
  • /> <div style=1/17 (Epiphany 2): Rev. John Christensen
Rev. Christensen is the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cheyenne. He is the father of two of our college students (Heidi and Victoria) and the uncle of another (Jade Stutheit). The family affair runs even deeper than that as his father, Rev. Sam Christensen, is covering for him in Cheyenne so he can be with us. :-)
Bible Study Topic: “Biblical Manhood and Biblical Womanhood”
Having been created in the image of God may make us equal but it does not make us interchangeable. Or to put it another way, “Why a woman should never marry a man to whom she cannot be submissive and a man should not marry a woman for whom he would not ‘take a bullet’?”
  • /> <div style=1/24 (Transfiguration): Rev. Richard Boche
Rev. Boche presently serves as the President of the Wyoming District. He previously served as the pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cheyenne and as the campus pastor here from 1977-1984.
Bible Study Topic: “The Holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints"
It is no secret today that Christians in the United States are increasingly less loyal to any “denomination.” But what is surprising is to realize that the United States has quickly become the third largest pagan nation in the world. Pastor Boche will discuss these phenomena in lieu of this important portion of the Apostle’s Creed.

Bach Organ concert (Thursday, 1/14, 7 pm)

/> <div style= This year (2010) is the occasion of the 325th Birthday of J.S. Bach. Bach (1685–1750) is acknowledged as one of the most famous and gifted of all composers past and present in the entire western world. He was also primarily a devout confessional Lutheran church musician.

During the course of this year, Kantor Steven Hoffman will be holding organ concerts in Cheyenne to honor Bach’s birthday as a part of the “King’s Concert Series at King of Glory Lutheran Church, but he has agreed to give us a taste of what he may be playing here.

So come and join Dr. Hoffman for “An Evening with Johann Sebastian Bach”, on Thursday night, January 24 beginning at 7 p.m. Enjoy the great treasure that God has given the world through the music of Bach!

Evening Prayer & Choir (Thursday, 1/21)

Join us as we begin our new /> <div style= Epiphany Evening Prayer series, "Epiphany Unplugged: The Lost Texts of the Season of Epiphany." Special thanks to Rev. Shawn Kumm, from our sister congregation, Zion, for leading us and preaching on Matthew 8:23-27 (Jesus Calming the Sea). Please note that the choir is now meeting at 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays before Evening Prayer. Come join us (ability to sing not necessary :-) and if you have an instrument feel free to bring that too!

Tell the Good News About Jesus Convocation, Casper (1/29-30)

/> <div style= We hope you consider joining us for the District's 9th Annual "Tell the Good News About Jesus Convocation" in Casper, on Friday and Saturday, January 29-30. It's always a great trip and you will love the chance to get away and kick back with everyone. There are a lot of details to work out, but we do need to know if you are planning to go one way or the other by Sunday, January 24th.

We will drive up late Friday afternoon (1/29) together, spend the night, enjoy Saturday's sessions and be back Saturday around 8 p.m. Registration cost is free to college students and $15 for non-students. The banquet is $18. We'll help with half the cost for the banquet for everyone, college student or otherwise, and we can settle up after the fact. Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex or otherwise let Pastor Zill know by 1/24.

Super Bowl Party (Sunday, 2/7, 4 pm)

/> <div style= Please plan on joining us in our TV Lounge to watch the Super Bowl on the big screen. As always, we'll have a fire in the fireplace. We'll provide the pizza, if you'll bring other stuff to supplement it. So plan on joining us as we hang out, enjoy each others company, laugh at some commercials, ridicule others, and root for the Broncos, or whoever else is playing!
