Authentic Christ-Centered Worship, Study, and Sometimes Just Plain Silliness!

Lent

Lent is not so much about "giving things up," as much as it is about joining our paths to that of Christ. Lent is a pilgrimage and a time of intense reflection, meditation, and preparation. It is a time to reflect on Baptism and its basis in the death and resurrection of Jesus. It is therefore a time for rebirth and renewal in preparation for the celebration of Easter, a rich, penitential, and catechetical season for the Church. Characteristic of this penitential season is the omission of the joyous Alleluia, the Gloria in Excelsis (or the Hymn of Praise) which are not sung again until Easter. In addition, no flowers are placed around the altar. The organ is only used to support the singing of the congregation, therefore there are no instrumental preludes, postludes, or interludes.
